Halkos George
Dr. George Halkos is an economist who has graduated from the department of Economics at the University of Piraeus (Greece). He holds a Master of Sciences (M.Sc) in Project Analysis, Finance and Investment and a Doctorate of Philosophy (D.Phil) in Cost-Benefit Analysis with the use of Mathematical Models and Game Theory and with application to Environmental Economics from the Economics Department of the University of York (England).
He is the Director of Postgraduate Studies in the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly entitled "Applied Economics".
He is the Deputy Head of the Department of Economics and the Director of the Operations Research Laboratory.
He is Associate Editor in the Environment and Development Economics.
Before he joined the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly (1999), he taught for three years in the Economics Department and for two years in the Department of Environmental Economics and Environmental Management at the University of York (UK). He has also taught for two years in the Department of the Environment at the University of the Aegean. Among the taught courses are Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Economics, Research Methods, Econometrics, Economics and Applied Economics in the undergraduate program and Public Economics and Quantitative Methods for Environmental Economics in the postgraduate program. He is a visiting Professor in the Environment Department at the University of York for teaching Statistics, Econometrics and Environmental Economics, while in the academic year 2006-07 he taught the course Economic Evaluation in the Master course of the Environment Department of the University of the Aegean. In the academic year 2010-11 he taught the course Environmental Economics and Valuation of Environmental Goods in the Master course of the International and European Economic Studies in the Athens University of Economics and Business.
He has worked as team leader and research fellow in various research and academic institutions as the University of Piraeus, the Athens University of Economics (former ASOEE), the University of the Aegean, the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Panteion University, the ATEI, etc. for research projects financed by the European Union (PHARE programs), the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Development, the National Statistical Service of Greece, the EUROSTAT, the Ministry of Employment, etc.
He has participated and presented articles in International Conferences organised by the ENI, the Centre of European Economics of London, the Royal Economic Society, etc. He acts as a referee in various scientific journals as the Energy Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, Economic Modelling, Empirica, Environment and Development Economics, Ecological Economics, Public Choice, Journal of Applied Business Research, Management Accounting Research, Journal of Industrial Ecology, Journal of Environmental Management, Technology Analysis and Stratregic Management, International Business Review, Environmental Engineering and Management Journal, Greener Management International (The Journal of Corporate Environmental Strategy and Practice), Research in International Business and Finance, European Journal of Operational Research, Applied Mathematics and Computation, Journal of Modelling in Management, Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, etc.
His research interests are in the fields of Applied Statistics and Econometrics, Simulations of Economic Modelling, Environmental Economics, Applied Micro-economic with emphasis in Welfare Economics, Air Pollution, Game Theory, Mathematical Models (Non-Linear Programming).
